Big Sleep – Looking for a girl with a washing machine

I’m looking for a girl
with a washing machine
and a room that’s cool and shady

I’m looking for a girl
with a shower and bath
come on, baby, don’t look at me like that

I’m looking for a girl
with a washing machine
I ain’t saying
I ain’t saying I’m dirty
and I ain’t saying I’m clean

I’m looking for a girl
with a washing machine
and a room that’s cool and shady

I’m looking for a girl
and i got plans for the night
I ain’t saying i’m lonely but i could use some company

I’m looking for a girl
with a washing machine
I ain’t saying I’m dirty
and I ain’t saying I’m clean

I bet you got a washing machine
I bet you ain’t got nothing i do
And I’m just a boy who came in town
I won’t let you down

The Twilight Sad – Cold days from the birdhouse

Another hotel
With -willing plans-
Romantic gesture
With -willing plans-
And so you make it your own
But this is where your arm can’t go
you make it your own

Another phone call
With -willing plans-
Romantic gesture
With -willing plans-

And so you make it your own
But this is where your arm can’t go
You make it your own
But this is where your arm can’t go

And your red sky at night won’t follow me
It won’t follow me now.
I’m going where you should

I’ll -unplug- your mind

I see it when you lie
We all look so surprised
And, well, you come back
You come back

And breath and then -spoke sighs-
Like a puppet told to drive
Well, you come back

And your red sky at night won’t follow me
It won’t follow me now.

And your red sky at night won’t follow me
It won’t follow me now.

And your red sky at night won’t follow me
It won’t follow me now.

And your red sky at night won’t follow me
You won’t follow me now.

Where are your manners?
So, where are your manners?
And where are your manners?
And where are your manners?
So, where are your manners?
And where are your manners?
And where are your manners?
And where are your manners?
So, where are your manners?
And where are your manners?
So, where are your manners?
And where are your manners?
And where are your manners?
So, where are your manners?

The Young Republic – Goodbye town

There go my blues again
I got it bad.
Cause I’m leaving this town
I know so well.
Goodbye mama
and goodbye dad.
I’ll be back soon as I can.
Hello busy people
on busy streets.
Goodbye lazy river
in my kitchen window.
Hello new tomorrows
and heavy dreams.
Goodbye my best friend
and all my favourite things.
Six tables in a grossery store
you wont be seeing me no more.
Farmers fair and the football games
****************************************.
Goodbye mama
and goodbye dad.
I’ll be back soon as I can.
Hello busy people
on busy streets.
Goodbye lazy river
in my kitchen window.
Hello new tomorrows
and heavy dreams.
Goodbye my best friend
and all my favourite things.
Starless nights are so romantic
pink carnation in a limousine
expensive cars dont mean a thing.
Hello busy people
on busy streets.
Goodbye lazy river
in my kitchen window.
Hello new tomorrows
and heavy dreams.
Goodbye little town
and all the memories.

Madeleine Peyroux – Lonesome town

Look down, look down
That lonesome road
Before you travel on

Look up, look up
And seek your maker
Before Gabriel blows his horn

I’m weary of toting, such a heavy load
Trudging down, that lonesome road

Look down, look down
That lonesome road
Before you travel on

I’m weary of toting, such a heavy load
Trudging down, that lonesome road

Look down, look down
That lonesome road
Before you travel on
Before you travel on

Beirut – The flying club cup
“……. once you get past this spent-cigarette, empty-hotel story he’s selling, it’s obvious that what Condon lacks in lyrical ability, he more than makes up for in prosody. He has an impressive flow, a delicate glide that perfectly compliments the oft-commented-upon exoticism that tends to divide Beirut listeners. On The Flying Cup Club, and maybe on all of Beirut’s records, this exoticism takes the form not of alienation but of a search for a familiar place within what seems (or sounds) unfamiliar, difficult, or repulsive. It’s the process of searching that untethers the record from any limiting sense of place, be it an Arrondissement in Paris or a village in the Balkans.”

Feist – The reminder
“The Reminder: it’s something of an odd title. A reminder of what, exactly? Feist has only been holed up in the studio for a short time, as a remix album reminded all of us of the transplanted Parisian last year……Regardless how cynical one gets to popular music, everyone, critical or not, can enjoy this, like diving into a good cup of coffee at a Parisian café haunted by Goethe and Baudelaire. Hey, one can dream. Feist certainly has.”

The Cinematic Orchestra – Ma fleur
“While The Cinematic Orchestra’s musical roster has evolved with each new release, their sound has remained steady in its uniqueness and attempts at recreating powerful moods through layered compositions. Ma Fleur, their fourth album, is no exception. An existential tour through a swinging spectrum of emotional highs and lows, the album rawly reflects on the contemporary and universal crises faced by both jazz and humanity…..Like a film, Ma Fleur both drains and uplifts. It’s a demanding and complex album that has proven to be one of the best albums I’ve heard in years, a universal soundtrack to a life that requires no visuals to imagine.”

M83 – Digital shades vol 1
“…..the album’s aura of inessentiality becomes an asset– a pleasant contrast to M83’s usual momentous impact. The songs are big by ambient standards, but tiny by Gonzalez’s. All of M83’s work is mood music, but the mood is usually one of passion and intensity, which can occasionally be a bit enervating. For those who crave the M83 sound but feel too nervy for all the pageantry, this is a perfect fit: grand and beautiful, but also retiring and relaxing. It’s an X-ray view of the skeleton that tends to disappear under Gonzalez’s percussive muscle, and a promising teaser for the next proper M83 album.”

Editors – An end has a start
“If Ian Curtis was still alive he’d no doubt be a fan of this band, if not for the bleak lyrics and forceful guitars, for the way it’s all hidden behind a veil of catchy, soaring pop melody……the obliteration of sound and escapism of voice mangle into the bottomless freefall of brilliance that combine these unworkable blocks into tools of unbelievable song-making and put Editors on our wish list of people we definitely want to hook up with in the afterlife.”

Stars – In our bedroom after the war
“Their sweet, lovelorn glide is what sets Stars apart from their Canadian peers on this, their fourth album. Emotions here run from gentle melancholy through to ebbing sorrow, but there’s still time for euphoria too. With ‘In Our Bedroom…’ Stars are rewriting the textbook on romance with effortless glee.”

Tori Amos – American doll posse
“Tori has made a career of being “Tori”: the personal, confrontational spitfire with a talent as big as her voice. “Tori” is still all over this record, she is just well-hidden by her concepts and her characters; her writing and composition talents are at the forefront….Amos produces a wholly relevant musical document that exists as both a nice companion piece to a world on the brink of cataclysmic disaster, but also as a bright-eyed, cautiously optimistic re-affirming of human nature. American Doll Posse also functions separately, as a testament to Amos’s skill and longevity as a performer”

UNKLE – War stories
“Whether it’s in terms of the artists they collaborate with, or the videos they produce, Unkle continually strive to offer something different from the norm.. most of the instrumentation on War Stories is played live, while the album is being released on Lavelle’s new label, Surrender All, which is designed to connect his infamously broad range of interests – music, fashion and art – through one independently run axis. The result is a deeply imaginative long-player that’s as dark, brooding and foreboding as the era in which we live”

The White Stripes – Icky thump
“If the blues progressions put Icky Thump in Jack’s musical sweet spot, Jack the spiritual traveler is, as ever, adrift — hounded by cruel fate, pondering death and desolation, chasing redemption and hot women, including some half his age…………like Bob Dylan, are trickster traditionalists. They profess to worship roots music but treat it as a plaything, a mystery to be plumbed and parodied, the source of sustenance and fodder for an elaborate conceptual-art stunt that makes the past sound like the future.”

The Beasts of Bourbon – Little animals
“The Beasts Of Bourbon don’t work through headphones. Cheap ones are too tinny and an expensive pair are still too small. The sound is meant to hit you in the chest and shake you down……….the group’s signature swamp-rock growl, best played loud enough to rattle your toes. It probably sounded punchier twenty years ago, but it hasn’t lost its appeal.”

This time instead of uploading the first three albums we decided that it is better if we would share two mixtapes, one with ten songs from the top ten and one from the leftovers (because alot of good music had to stay out and we just couldn’t stand it).

Enjoy and have a jolly good year!
